A. I offer layers and variations in all of my classes to allow participants to go at their own pace.
A. I start each warm up with guidance on the essentials; form, breathwork and body alignment. I demonstrate and describe all the moves and offer modifications to accommodate different fitness levels.
A. The short answer is no. There are certain moves which will be easier with a good level of flexibility, but Pilates is designed to improve flexibility, strength, balance and co-ordination across all bodies. Some people are very flexible but have little core strength, some people have strong bodies but little flexibility or perhaps they’re fit but their muscles are tense. Pilates gently helps to improve all of these things, whatever your baseline.
A. No. Warm up and cool down are an integral part of the class and are performed in every class I teach.
A. Wear light, non-restrictive clothing you feel comfortable in. Pilates can be done either in socks or bare foot as you prefer.
A. I always advise participants to bring water to class and keep hydrated both during and after the class.
A. You should leave the class feeling energised, invigorated and also calm. You may notice certain muscles ache that don’t usually! Pilates challenges the deep stabilizing muscles that many of us don’t use regularly in daily life. You may be tapping into muscles that you haven’t worked for a while. This is a good thing.
A. Most definitely! Many of my classes have a 50/50 split. Although traditionally seen as a more ‘gentle’ option, more and more men are realising the many benefits of Pilates. A strong core is vital for everyone and will make all areas of your mobility easier. This is most definitely a class for all.
